What inspires you daily in the world? Are their certain ingredients and herbs that make your mind come alive with ideas?
A: Surrounding myself with natures calming energy is what moves me everyday! If I’m not out frolicking for wild-foraged plant medicine, I am in the house with a cup of tea, reading a nice paperback book, exploring all of natures healing possibilities. All herbs and flowers really excite my senses, but to be more specific I really feel instantly alive when I smell freshly ground cardamom and geranium essential oil.
What does nature do for your soul?
A: Being a Southern California girl and having a lovely mama that would take us to the beach almost every weekend, set me up to be a nature bunny, but I must admit I have fallen madly in love the woods and forest in the last few years. That woody environment has broadened my horizons in living a fulfilling and abundant life. My divine connection with self and all surroundings really came forth while spending time in nature. Being in nature everyday is really a spiritual experience for me. Recognizing all the bits and pieces of the Earth fit together in a perfect geometry.
What does your creative process look like? Can you paint us a little picture of a typical day?
A: Oh I am a really simple kind of gal. Outside of being a wife, mom, entrepreneur and keeping a healthy flow of daily life, I have learned that I must make time for myself, which also means BFree. First it’s all about a fresh cup of Chai tea, preferably a homemade brew. Second; a good book… on plants and healing of course. Herbalism is really a life long study. I will never learn everything, so there is always a childlike whimsy when I get to learn and create. Third; low music. I can go all over the place with what kind of music sets my day vibe. From mediation to Warpaint, to the blues or 60’s psycadelica. If it feels right, I go with it. This flow happens maybe 3 days a week. Most days I am actually making, packaging, shipping and answering emails.
If you could visit any five places in the world where would they be and why?
A: 1. I absolutely must go to the Amazon in Peru. It is my new obsession. So many modern day Shaman living in and healing people in the jungle.
2. Africa, because everyone should visit a place that has been inhabited longer than most other continent’s in the world
3. Australia –I can feel myself totally vibing with the locals. I am into everything they’ve got going on over there.
4. France, specifically the South of France, with my Mother. We’ve discussed our trip there for many years.
Last but not least, Jamaica, for the music and tasty food.
What makes you feel most beautiful? And what is beauty to you?
A: I feel most beautiful when getting my hands dirty. I love hiking, rock climbing, and dirt all over the place. Beauty to me is being an authentic Being. Staying true to oneself no matter what the cost. Having empathy for humanity. Truly loving of others and not just saying it, but also actually feeling it. WE ARE ONE.
Scent to me brings back memories. Are there any scents that bring you back to your childhood? Or any other special memory? Are any of them used in your line?
A: I fondly remember my Grandmother’s garden filled with fruit trees, vegetables, and herbs. I remember the smell of the dirt once wet and eating the fruits and veggies straight from the vine. Those memories literally make me tear up, because I realize that I have returned to that life of enchantment and wonder. And her lemons were divine, so aromatic and delicious. They had to of been Meyer lemons because every time I cut one open it takes me right back to specific days of my youth. I believe her garden has given me a keen nose to create clean, fresh scents for BFree.
What is green beauty to you?
A: Green beauty means sustainable beauty. Living an Eco lifestyle. No chemicals, GMOs, artificial preservatives, fragrance etc. It means being consciously aware of your self care items.
Do your children help you in creating your skincare? Do they help you pick different herbs and ingredients to use?
A: Yes! They all help me with so much. I ask their advice on things most of the time and I must say they’ve got pretty good taste, being 7 and 14 years old. They each have their own favorite BFree products that they can’t live without. They sniff everything, test it all out on themselves etc. My seven year old helps me when I create by arranging all the necessary supplies I need to make, package and ship each order. Since everything is made when ordered in small batches, it can get overwhelming. As our family business grows they are all always there when I need them, watching me run around like a crazy lady. They have been with me since I started this journey and I really owe it all to them. I am slowly starting to pass the baton of “shipping” off to my eldest boy. Now that we live in a small town this has made life much easier, which means he can walk to the post and learn entrepreneurialism at a young age and understand they value of family owned business.
What is your favorite season?
A: Spring. Nature is so fertile! It is the perfect time to watch everything bloom. I love it
Do you have a favorite vegan meal that you can’t imagine living without?
A: Three Words. Tofu Lettuce Wraps. Fourth word… BOMB
Scent, sight, touch, taste, sound, out of our five senses which one is your favorite?
Oh this is a hard one. I will go with touch. Hence the “getting my hands dirty”
What is next for BFree Organics? Anything in particular you are working on?
Yes! BFree will be 3 years old this May and already so much has changed since the beginning. It is more than just a business for me, as I am very passionate about getting clean eco skincare + wellness out into the world. It has been a true awakening for me, personally and professionally. I plan to open a Shop/ Private practice here in Mount Shasta, CA. It will happen very soon. I can feel it! I have also wanted to create an affordable line of products for 0-12 year olds for a while and since I am currently with-child this may happen sooner than later. I am just excited about the growth of BFree and where it is headed. I started this business with $637 dollars and it has been a life changing experience to say the least. I am forever grateful!
